What is the full form ANM?

ANM stands for "Auxiliary Nurse Midwife".

This role is dedicated to a woman that offers a bridge between the common people living in the village and the healthcare service. This role is subjected to village level service only and it is highly or only practiced in India.

The appointment person plays an important role because by this way villagers are able to seek help and that is how a bridge has gaped. The appointment person is able to achieve the desired target by the means of providing better health care for the people living in places that are remote and don’t offer the kind of facility that is generally offered in cities and towns.

ANMs are expected to be multi-purpose health workers. ANM-related work includes maternal and child health along with family planning services, health, and nutrition education, efforts for maintaining environmental sanitation, immunization for the control of communicable diseases, treatment of minor injuries, and first aid in emergencies and disasters.

In remote areas, such as hilly and tribal areas where transport facility is likely to be poor, ANMs are required to conduct home deliveries for women.

Auxiliary Nurse Midwife History:

The history goes way back to the 1966s when the popular Mukherjee Committee put forward the idea of forming a system that would engage people in need to meet their respective requirements. During that period, the training involved especially around the area of mother and child health.

Later on, the idea got recognition and it picked up to be practiced widely.
