AMD Invests $135M to Expand Xilinx FPGA Development in Ireland

AMD announced a few days ago that it will invest $135 million in the Xilinx business in Ireland over four years to expand its R&D and engineering operations in Dublin and Cork.

AMD noted that the funds will be used to fund strategic research and development programs, including the employment of 290 highly skilled R&D and engineering staff and various support staff. AMD did not describe this plan in detail, only mentioning next-generation artificial intelligence, data centers, networks and 6G communication infrastructure, which means most of the markets served by Xilinx's adaptive computing solutions (such as FPGA).

At the same time, AMD also mentioned that Xilinx's AMD Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC and other products are all developed in Europe.
