Intel, which has been left behind by competitors such as Nvidia, will reverse the company's fortunes through large-scale factory expansion

Intel CEO Pat Kissinger recently accepted an interview with the Wall Street Journal, saying that compared with competitors such as Nvidia and AMD, Intel has repeatedly delayed the launch of new chips, disappointing potential customers, "We are not in this quagmire without our own reasons. We have some serious issues in terms of leadership, people, methods, etc. that need to be addressed."

In Kissinger's view, Intel's problems stem largely from a failed transformation in the way chips are made. Intel is famous for designing integrated circuits and manufacturing them in its own factories. Today, chip companies tend to specialize in either integrated circuit design or manufacturing, and Intel hasn't been able to win much of the business of making chips designed by other companies.

Kissinger's plan is to pour hundreds of billions of dollars into new factories that will make semiconductors for other companies as well as Intel's own chips.

The size of the global chip market is expected to exceed $1 trillion by the end of this decade. Kissinger said he was confident Intel could deliver on his promise of five chip technology advances in four years and would produce "the most advanced processors in the world" within the next few years. Kissinger also said that he is very confident that Intel can become one of the world's two largest foundry chip manufacturers.
