【Lansheng Technology Information】 May 16, 2023 - Toshiba announced today that it has launched the first two products of the over-temperature detection IC ThermoflaggerTM series: "TCTH021BE" When an abnormal state is detected, the FLAG signal does not have a latch function, " TCTH022BE"FLAG signal detection with latch function. They utilize positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistors to detect temperature rise inside electronic devices in a simple circuit configuration. The product supports volume shipments starting today.

 

In order for an electronic device to function as specified, its semiconductors and electronic components must operate within design parameters. Temperature is a critical parameter, especially when the internal temperature is higher than assumed for design. This can be a major concern in terms of safety and reliability, so an over-temperature monitoring solution is required to detect any temperature rise.

 

Toshiba's new ThermoflaggerTM IC is used in combination with a PTC thermistor, which can be monitored by changing the resistance value according to temperature. They detect changes in the resistance value of a PTC thermistor placed near a heat source and output a FLAG signal to indicate overtemperature. A series connection of PTC thermistors enables over-temperature detection at multiple locations.

 

ThermoflaggerTM ICs allow users to easily configure an over-temperature detection system for an entire electronic product and help achieve both size and power improvements. Toshiba will continue to develop ThermoflaggerTM ICs with various functions.
